About Us:
At Gracie United Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Kenner & Metairie, our Jiu Jitsu classes focus on fundamentals over flashiness. We stay humble and break down grappling techniques in order to be strong martial artists through consistent learning. This consistency is the core of being a powerful athlete and disciplined individual. Our students leave our academy well-equipped for social and academic environments due to our methods. Jiu Jitsu training goes beyond strength – unlike other activities, it crafts individuals who are resilient and pros at problem solving. One of the most important benefits of Jiu Jitsu is being able to manage your stress in a variety of situations. We train Jiu Jitsu to be a part of a strong community while strengthening ourselves as individuals in the process.
Our History:
Mark Leeling, owner of Gracie United Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Kenner & Metairie, started his martial arts training journey at the young age of 5 years old. What started off as grappling blossomed into collegiate wrestling, MMA, high school wrestling coaching and beyond. Mark discovered his passion for Jiu Jitsu when his friend encouraged him to restart his grappling journey. The spark for Jiu Jitsu was instantaneous due to the enthusiastic and competitive community around him.
In July 2020, Mark created his own community by establishing Gracie United Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Kenner & Metairie in Kenner, Louisiana. It wasn’t an easy beginning for the academy when everyone feared the gym environment during the COVID-19 pandemic, yet he took the risk. He bought the gym from its original owner with less than 20 students and today it’s thriving with over 200 students. Mark’s determination and passion for teaching paid off for Gracie United Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Kenner & Metairie. Being able to change the lives of his students for the better is incredibly fulfilling and is the reason Mark Leeling is so dedicated to his community and school.
